Four Expert Predictions for Construction in 2026 – Part 2

Construction Site 2026

To kick off 2026, we brought together four of our construction technology industry experts to get their thoughts on what the new year might bring. From general industry predictions to the most useful new tools and technology, here’s what our team has to say about what’s coming in the new year, and what these changes mean for owners, architects, contractors, and project teams.

This is part two of a three-part series. Check out part one here.

Taylor CuppTaylor Cupp – VP, Hexagon Multivista

Taylor is leading the charge in fostering virtual design and construction (VDC), implementing building information modeling (BIM) into the field, and is responsible for overseeing Hexagon Multivista’s efforts to reduce the time and cost of construction through the successful implementation of new technology and AI.

What digital tool will become increasingly popular in 2026?

“The growth we’ll see in certain sectors – data centers, health care, pharmaceuticals – will drive the adoption of tools that deliver deep business value in AECO based on solving core problems across the business. From a con-tech standpoint, we’ve moved out of the ‘there’s an app for that’ mentality, for the most part. Designers, Engineers, Builders, Owners, and Operators have less patience for point solutions, and their trust in AI to deliver critical insight is mixed. There are examples where AI has not delivered on its promise, and there are those where it has been transformative in the day-to-day.  But overhype, buzzwords, and the lack of delivery have the industry looking for an emerging or established technology provider to step up.

The reality is that the industry is short on people to deliver at the expected pace, particularly in some of the geographical areas demanding delivery. This is where AI tools will excel – filling the people gap on what have historically been wasteful tasks, and those segments experiencing explosive growth will generate new needs, then adopt new tools (AI or otherwise), services, and workflows that deliver value. My bold prediction is that we will see segments of the industry building in new ways. AECO has to adopt industrial methods across design, procurement, fab, and install just to keep up in the geographies where massive projects are being built.”

Graham Twigg

Graham Twigg – VP Product and Engineering, Hexagon Multivista

As a co-founder of Multivsita in 2003, Graham is a pioneer of construction reality capture and helped build Hexagon Multivista into a global leader in the construction technology space.

What digital tool do you expect to gain popularity in 2026?

“Reality capture as a jobsite necessity was the story of the first half of this decade. Automated reality analysis will be the story of the second half.”

cathi hayesCathi Hayes – VP Go-To-Market, Hexagon Multivista

After thirteen years with Hexagon, Cathi’s strategy, marketing, and business development expertise spans almost every facet of the AEC industry, including BIM, collaboration, data management, architecture, owner strategy, and capture, create, and analyze construction services and technology.

What tool do you see becoming increasingly popular in 2026?

“The technology set for rapid adoption is the Minimalistic Digital Twin – a streamlined, facility-ready model created from everyday capture methods. Its true breakthrough is the ability to connect directly with existing CMMS and asset systems, giving facility teams visual clarity and actionable data in a unified environment.

This approach eliminates the barriers that previously stalled digital twin initiatives: owners don’t have to switch systems, rebuild workflows, or invest heavily upfront. They can start with a clean visual baseline and enrich the twin with structure, assets, and deeper integrations only when the value is clear. It’s the first scalable, future-proof path into digital maturity.”

george thomas 2025George Thomas – VP Software, Hexagon Multivista

With a career spanning 25 years in software development, George excels at big-picture strategy and perspective that leads to creative, inventive solutions that are foundational to innovation in technology.

What tool will become increasingly popular in 2026?

“The tools that will surge in popularity will be those that harness AI to deliver precisely the information a customer needs – no more, no less – tailored to their context and intent. This shift marks the beginning of a fundamental transformation in how we interact with applications: instead of static interfaces, UI and UX will increasingly be generated in real time based on user parameters and desired outcomes.

While a fully dynamic, AI-driven interface paradigm is still a few years away, 2026 will accelerate this trajectory as organizations adopt solutions that prioritize clarity, relevance, and adaptability. These tools will redefine efficiency by eliminating unnecessary complexity and presenting actionable insights in the most intuitive way possible.”

To finish out this three-part blog series, we’re checking back in with these experts later this week for their final predictions on what digital tools will become increasingly popular in 2026, and what technology excites them the most. In the meantime, be sure to read the first post in this three-blog series here.
