Four Expert Predictions for Construction in 2026 – Part 3

Hexagon Multivista Construction site

To kick off 2026, we brought together four of our construction technology industry experts to get their thoughts on what the new year might bring. From general industry predictions to the most useful new tools and technology, here’s what our team has to say about what’s coming in the new year, and what these changes mean for owners, architects, contractors, and project teams.

This is part two of a three-part series. Check out part one and part two.

Taylor CuppTaylor Cupp – VP, Hexagon Multivista

Taylor is leading the charge in fostering virtual design and construction (VDC), implementing building information modeling (BIM) into the field, and is responsible for overseeing Hexagon Multivista’s efforts to reduce the time and cost of construction through the successful implementation of new technology and AI.

What technology are you most excited about for 2026?

“Without a doubt, the impacts of AI are something that all will keep a very close eye on.  From venture investments to M&A, this will be where we witness a lot of buzz. Those that have built on processes that can’t adapt to the advantages of automation and AI will flounder. So, AI in general – whether LLMs or generative tools – is the thing I’m very excited about.”

Graham Twigg

Graham Twigg – VP Product and Engineering, Hexagon Multivista

As a co-founder of Multivsita in 2003, Graham is a pioneer of construction reality capture and helped build Hexagon Multivista into a global leader in the construction technology space.

In the upcoming year, what technology are you watching most closely?

“Robotics is leaving the controlled setting of the manufacturing environment and starting to appear on construction sites.”

cathi hayesCathi Hayes – VP Go-To-Market, Hexagon Multivista

After thirteen years with Hexagon, Cathi’s strategy, marketing, and business development expertise spans almost every facet of the AEC industry, including BIM, collaboration, data management, architecture, owner strategy, and capture, create, and analyze construction services and technology.

What technology within the Hexagon Multivista ecosystem excites you the most in 2026?

“I’m most excited about the emergence of connected digital twins that grow and evolve like living systems. Built within the Create segment of our services portfolio, these twins transform captured reality into a dynamic model that can expand over time – adding geometry, LOD, asset intelligence, and operational integrations exactly when the owner is ready.

By enabling a direct connection to CMMS platforms, we’re giving organizations a unified view of their spaces, assets, and maintenance needs without requiring laser scanning or heavy BIM upfront. It’s a practical, customer-paced form of digital transformation: start minimal, grow smart, and unlock deeper insight with every stage of the building lifecycle.”

george thomas 2025George Thomas – VP Software, Hexagon Multivista

With a career spanning 25 years in software development, George excels at big-picture strategy and perspective that leads to creative, inventive solutions that are foundational to innovation in technology.

What technology are you most excited about for 2026?

“The technology I’m most excited about is the convergence of advanced AI methodologies that will transform how we interact with construction data and models. Generative AI will play a central role, not just in creating hyper-realistic visualizations, but in dynamically adapting models to user intent – whether that means simplifying geometry for mobile performance or enriching detail for immersive VR.

Reinforcement learning and context-aware optimization will enable AI to intelligently prune or augment model data based on task requirements, while multimodal AI will seamlessly interpret text, voice, and image inputs to deliver the right visualization instantly. Large-scale foundation models, such as those powering natural language interfaces, will make querying a BIM or digital twin as intuitive as asking a question in plain English.

Combined with neural rendering and AI-driven format translation, these technologies will eliminate friction between capture, design, and operations, creating a fluid ecosystem where models are not static files but living, adaptive assets that respond to every stakeholder’s needs in real time.”

And that brings an end to our experts’ three-part blog series of predictions for 2026. If you missed them, be sure to read the first blog here and the second one here.
